Occupational Health Care

This component is part of statutory occupational health care and includes, among other things, workplace assessments, preparation of an operational plan, health screenings, work ability evaluations, and occupational health counseling. Through effective preventive occupational health care, we aim to identify health risks at an early stage to ensure that employees maintain good health and high work capacity.

This component is optional to include in the agreement. When medical care is included, employees have the opportunity to visit occupational health services for various health-related matters. The exact types of visits and examinations covered are always agreed upon at the time the contract is established. The advantage of including medical care in the agreement is that assistance can be provided quickly when needed, helping to minimize unnecessary sick days. In Finland, a sick day is estimated to cost a company between €350 and €450, meaning that sick days can quickly lead to significant expenses over time.

The Basic Package includes the essential services and corresponds to what is required by law, namely preventive occupational health care. In brief, the package comprises the preparation of an operational plan, workplace assessments, health examinations, work ability evaluations, and occupational health counseling.

In the General Package, work-related medical care at the general practitioner level is also included. This means that employees have the opportunity to consult a general practitioner or nurse/healthcare professional for various medical matters. The package also covers certain laboratory tests and X-ray examinations when needed. The advantage of this package is that assistance can be provided promptly when required, helping to minimize unnecessary sick days. By managing your medical care, we also gain a better overview of the company’s health status, enabling a more effective and preventive approach.

In the Specialist Package, work-related healthcare at the specialist level is included. Employees then have the opportunity to visit various specialist physicians 1–3 times per year, always based on a referral from the occupational healthcare provider. The package also covers more extensive laboratory tests, MRI and ultrasound examinations, as well as expanded physiotherapy and psychological services for medical purposes.

The package includes all services without limitations. It provides a very practical solution, for example, for sole proprietors or family-owned businesses.

The reimbursements available from Kela are relatively high for sole proprietors. For example, Kela covers annual costs of €503 for preventive health care, €357.60 for medical care, and €1,005.50 for potential workplace visits (figures for 2025). In total, Kela can thus reimburse costs of over €1,800 per year. Reimbursements within occupational health care are also significantly higher than if the same services are used privately in the private healthcare sector.

Note: On-site visits for agricultural entrepreneurs are completely free of charge for the business owner.

For entrepreneurs, Kela pays the reimbursement directly in connection with the invoice. This means that the occupational health service provider applies for the reimbursement from Kela, and the entrepreneur does not need to handle any forms or reimbursement applications.

With accessible and well-functioning occupational health care, prompt assistance is provided whenever needed. For business owners, it is always advantageous to enter into an agreement with comprehensive coverage, ensuring access to all types of examinations and medical consultations as required. This way, occupational health services are always available to provide support and guidance.

From experience, we have observed that many entrepreneurs often place their own health last. In collaboration with occupational health services, agreements can be made for regular health check-ups at set intervals to monitor health status and work capacity. This allows preventive measures to be taken before potential health issues develop.

The only fixed fee is the annual base fee, and even for this fee, compensation from Kela is provided at 50–60%.

The scope and commencement date of the agreement are determined by mutual consent.
